This isn’t just a “productivity” story anymore. It’s a power shift.
AI is rapidly absorbing the execution layer of digital marketing (media buying, variation testing, production, optimization). That changes:
who gets hired
what junior roles look like
how brands control (or lose control of) their message
how often cultural missteps happen — and how expensive they become
And the uncomfortable truth is this:
AI will not “replace marketers.” It will replace the parts of marketing that look like a repeatable pattern.Everything else becomes more valuable … if you build for it.

Impacts: For marketing: you’re not looking at a simple “job loss” story. You’re looking at job redefinition, where the task mix inside roles changes fast.
Why entry-level marketing is in the blast zone
Entry-level roles often are the repeatable pattern:

reporting
first-pass audience and keyword work
research summaries

That’s exactly what generative AI does well.
Even outside marketing, the IMF is flagging that regions with high demand for AI skills show lower employment levels in AI-vulnerable occupations over time a warning sign for how entry-level ladders can get thinner.
PR research also confirms the talent-development risk: a Muck Rack survey reported 75% of PR pros use genAI, and 75% of those users worry it can harm talent development (over-reliance among younger practitioners).
The marketing-specific adoption curve is already steep
Canada’s own data shows the execution layer is being automated rapidly: Statistics Canada reported marketing automation used by 23.1% of businesses in Q2 2025 (up from 15.2% a year earlier).
At the enterprise level, McKinsey reports that 78% of organisations use AI in at least one business function, with organisations most commonly reporting AI use in IT and marketing & sales; 71% report regular use of generative AI in at least one function.
So yes, the labour market is adjusting now, not later.
The new career moat: the jobs AI can’t do without humans

taste, originality, and long-term distinctiveness
cultural context and community trust
governance, risk, and legal defensibility
LinkedIn’s research indicates a broader shift: demand for AI literacy is increasing, even among non-technical professionals, with AI literacy appearing much more frequently in job requirements year-over-year.
Practical career takeaway: marketers who become “AI-assisted executors” get commoditized; marketers who become “AI directors” get promoted.
2) Brand control: platforms are optimizing your message whether you like it or not
The hidden change isn’t that AI writes headlines.
It’s that AI is increasingly deciding:
who sees your ads
where they appear
which creative variant wins
what your brand becomes associated with
The platform reality: more inventory, less transparency
Google’s Performance Max is explicitly designed to access all Google inventory from a single campaign (Search, YouTube, Display, Discover, Gmail, Maps), optimized against goals.

AI doesn’t “understand culture.” It predicts what looks statistically plausible based on training data. That creates two risks:

KPMG’s global work also shows strong public appetite for regulation around AI-generated misinformation (e.g., very high support for laws in surveyed populations).
So the environment is shifting toward:

The upside: inclusive marketing works … when it’s real
Kantar’s “Inclusion = Income” / Unstereotype-linked results indicate measurable commercial benefits for inclusive advertising, such as increased short- and long-term sales and loyalty effects when stereotypes are avoided.
But AI will not automatically get you that upside.It will just let you produce more messaging faster … good or bad.
4) The regulation and accountability reality (brands can’t hide behind “the tool did it”)
Even if you’re not “in Europe,” your media and platforms often are.
The EU AI Act framework is progressing through phased implementation and was updated as recently as January 27, 2026, on the EU’s official policy site.
In the U.S., the FTC has explicitly signalled enforcement against deceptive AI-related claims; there’s “no AI exemption”.
In Canada, Bill C-27 (which included AIDA) appears as historical information for the previous session and did not pass completely, while government materials continue to frame AI rules as proposed policy directions.
Net: accountability is sticking to brands, not vendors.
